This is paraphrased and attributed to Benjamin Franklin. What would this founding father think about the citizens of these United States today? Our founding fathers knew what it was like to have an over reaching abusive central government. They also knew that it is hard to say no to a government that “wants to help” by giving you security by taking your freedoms away.
We must be vigilant against this administration that says it wants to help us by taking away our Liberty and our Freedom. If you watched the Presidents speech last week you heard him talk about fixing our health care system. What he wants to do is take away our freedom of choosing our own health care and put that in the hands of the government. He wants the government to decide who gets what care and who is worth fixing and who is not. Ladies and Gentlemen that is not Freedom. What would Benjamin Franklin say if President Washington had proposed such a power grab in his day?? Have we lost that much in America to think that the government is the answer? Thousands of Americans have lost their lives defending our freedoms and the bureaucrats want to take them away and promise us more Security. If we give them control of our lives and give up our freedoms our lives will be better. Do you want the government telling you where you can and can not go to the doctor? Do you want the government telling you what medical care you can and can not have? They will even tell you when you have the privilege of going to see the doctor. That is exactly what the new regime promoting “Change” promised Germany as he took control of Germany in the 1930’s-1940’s. They even protected them from people with birth defects by exterminating them. After all, they were deemed a drain on the government’s economy and not worthy of living. They also “protected” Germany from people that had health issues by sterilization. China also has a “great” universal health care system. It even tells you that you can have only one child. Any more would be a drain on the “system” and if your wife gets pregnant with a second child they provide a forced abortion at no charge to the citizen. Josef Stalin also promised the Russian people that he was going to make Russia more secure if they would give up some of their Freedom and Liberties. You can see this same thing going on in South America today with Hugo Chavez in Venezuela and Morales in Bolivia they have promised more security if the people give the government control of their lives.
We must stand against this administration in this attempt to take away our God-given rights. What is most concerning with this administration is the fact that it seems our congress is not asking any questions and just approving what ever the President wants. Not one of them even read the $787 Billion dollar earmark bill before they voted on it!!! Not one read it but they spent over $787 Billion taxpayer dollars. Am I the only one that is concerned about this? Two out of our six elected officials were among the number that blindly voted yes and they were Democrats Travis Childers and Bennie Thompson.
Let’s stand with Roger Wicker, Thad Cochran, Greg Harper, and Gene Taylor(who is a Democrat) and defend this country from those who would seek to take our Freedoms from us!!

GOP senator calls on conservatives to join the battle

WASHINGTON - The chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee says conservatives have spent too much time “bleeding” and need to “get in the battle and fight.” 

Texas Senator John Cornyn has told the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington that his goal as head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee is to win more Republican seats and a new majority. 

He says the only way that goal can be achieved is if Republicans regain the trust and confidence of the American people.

Cornyn says his immediate task is getting former colleague Norm Coleman back in the Senate.

“Norm is a fantastic human being and he’s a great leader that Minnesotans can be proud of.  The Democrats of course are up to their old tricks up there in the land of 10,000 lakes, which has now become the land of ten-thousand lawyers as Al Franken continues to try to steal this election.  Now, I believe that Norm has a real shot at pulling this out in the recount litigation that’s occurring right now.  I’m still calling him old number forty-two.”

Cornyn says Republicans need to be honest about why they lost so many seats in the last two election cycles – they did not stick to their core conservative principles.

Ron Paul says young conservatives understand dangers of welfare state

WASHINGTON - The “Ron Paul Revolution” has swept through the Conservative Political Action Conference taking place this weekend in Washington.

A key base of support for Texas Congressman Ron Paul’s 2008 presidential campaign – young college-age voters – flocked into the convention hall to form the largest crowd so far for a speech at this year’s CPAC.

Paul, who made his traditional pitch for the abolition of the Federal Reserve,  Department of Education, and the 16th and 17th amendments, said young people are so enthusiastic about his message of  “defending liberty and the Constitution” because they realize they are getting a “bad deal.”

Dr. Paul said young people don’t want to be saddled with the massive debt created by the welfare state.

“The liberal do-gooders, the big spenders who say that we’re going to give you a free house to everybody, free medical care to everybody, free education, that’s preposterous. Everything is going to be for free, and yet the proof is if you care about your fellow man, there is only way you can maximize prosperity and maximize freedom, and that is through the rule of law and making sure that everybody understands that liberty is an individual thing and not a collective right.”

Paul says because the financial system has “come unglued,” the next shoe to drop is the disintegration of the dollar, so conservatives must work to restrain the “big spenders” in Washington before that second shoe drops.

Obama's New Spending Bill Has 9,000 Earmarks

WASHINGTON — During the 2008 presidential campaign, candidates Barack Obama and John McCain fought vigorously over who would be toughest on congressional earmarks.

"We need earmark reform," Obama said in September during a presidential debate in Oxford, Miss. "And when I'm president, I will go line by line to make sure that we are not spending money unwisely."

President Barack Obama should prepare to carve out a lot of free time and keep the coffee hot this week as Congress prepares to unveil a $410 billion omnibus spending bill that's riddled with thousands of earmarks, despite his calls for restraint and efforts on Capitol Hill to curtail the practice.

The bill will contain about 9,000 earmarks totaling $5 billion, congressional officials say. Many of the earmarks — loosely defined as local projects inserted by members of Congress — were inserted last year as the spending bills worked their way through various committees.

So while Obama and McCain were slamming earmarks on the campaign trail, House and Senate members — Democrats and Republicans — were slapping them into spending bills.

"It will be a little embarrassing for the president if he signs a bill with that many earmarks on it," said Stan Collender , a veteran Washington budget analyst. "He'll say they're left over from the Bush years, and he as to say that next year the bill will be clean."

Experts agree that most earmarks are legitimate. Cary Leahey , senior economist with Decision Economics in New York , said the nation's economic crisis is a contributing factor to the plethora of earmarks. Lawmakers can argue that for a relatively small price they've helped boost the economy.

"One congressman's earmark is another legislative way to fix a serious problem in his district," Leahey said.

Kenneth Thomas , a lecturer in finance at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of business, agrees.

"I generally believe that the priority is getting money into the system sooner rather than later, especially if it's for projects that will use local contractors and create jobs," he said.

Still, it wasn't supposed to be this way. Earmarks have come under fire because of those that seem to provide what Maya MacGuineas , president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, calls "laugh lines," such as Alaska's "Bridge to Nowhere" or North Dakota's Lawrence Welk Museum .

Obama pledged to take a hard hand on earmarks and warned lawmakers in a Feb. 3 letter from Budget Director Peter Orszag not to decorate the recently signed $787.2 billion stimulus bill with them.

Democrats declared the bill earmark-free. Republicans disagreed.

"While this bill does not include traditional earmarks, we should all understand that there are earmarks in this bill," said Sen. Mike Enzi , R- Wyo. "There is $850 million ... to bail out Amtrak , a $75 million earmark for the Smithsonian, a $1 billion earmark for the 2010 census."

Democrats have been trying to revamp the earmark process for about two years. In 2007, they instituted a system that required members to explain the contents of each earmark, as well as a justification for why it was included in the legislation that way. They claimed this led to a reduction in earmarks by as much as 43 percent.

But critics contended the system still had problems. Simply making information more available, they said, didn't address the major criticism: That such projects should go through the regular legislative process, subject to detailed hearings and bipartisan votes.

Not only does this mean the public has no chance to challenge questionable spending, but too often powerful interests who know how to work the system get favorite measures inserted.

For instance, Congressional Quarterly reported recently that more than 100 House members got earmarks for clients of the PMA Group , a lobbying firm with close ties to Rep. John Murtha , D- Pa. , who heads the powerful defense spending subcommittee. The CQ Politics analysis said that in the 2009 defense spending bill, which Congress approved last year, PMA clients got about $300 million .

The CQ study came after reports that the FBI is investigating the possibility of illegal campaign contributions by PMA to Murtha and other lawmakers. A Murtha spokesman said earlier this month that the FBI probe has nothing to do with Murtha. A PMA spokesman declined to comment on the probe.

Appropriations committee chairmen say they are on track to reform the earmark process beginning in fiscal 2010 by requiring members to make public their requests early, so the public can scrutinize them and presumably contact lawmakers.

The change, though, doesn't apply to the 2009 funding that Congress will consider next week.

Several experts believe that dramatically reducing the number of earmarks, while a laudable goal, is almost impossible. But others contend that earmarks aren't that big of a problem.

"Earmarks get more attention than they deserve," said MacGuineas. "The problem is that they cause a loss of confidence in the whole budget process."

The mother of a 12-year-old girl whose pro-life speech has become a hit YouTube video says her daughter's passion for the unborn is genuine.

Lia is a preteen from Canada who decided to speak out against abortion in her school's speech contest, despite teachers and school officials who encouraged her to pick a different topic.

"What if I told you that right now someone was choosing if you were going to live or die? What if I told you that this choice wasn't based on what you could or couldn't do, what you had done in the past, or what you would do in the future? And what if I told you [that] you could nothing about it? Fellow students and teachers, thousands of children are right now in that very situation," she says in her speech.
 
Kimberly, Lia's mother, says Lia was told by school officials that if she chose the topic of abortion, she would not be allowed to participate in the speech contest. But both were surprised when Lia's pro-choice teacher had a change of heart.
 
"Her teacher was really impressed by this speech and perhaps moved by it, and therefore her teacher kind of was a real supporter of [Lia] winning for the class," Kimberly notes. "And she had to go through a couple of hoops and get clearance from a couple of other teachers before she could be declared winner of the class."
 
Another controversy erupted when the panel of judges had a supposed big disagreement and one stepped down. Initially Lia was disqualified, but later the panel declared her the winner. She was asked to take out this portion of her speech: "[F]etuses are definitely humans knit together in their mother's womb by their wonderful Creator who knows them all by name."
 
Kimberly says after Lia was told to remove that portion of her speech, she took time to think about her decision and ultimately decided to leave it in. Lia also competed in a regional speech competition but did not win. However, her speech has been viewed by over 200,000 people on YouTube.

An Arab Christian and Islamic critic says the recent brutal beheading of a Muslim woman by her husband in New York should be a wake-up call to all Americans.

On February 12, Muzzammil Hassan went to the police station in the Buffalo suburb of Orchard Park and told police that his wife was dead and that her body could be found at his business, Bridges TV. Officers went to the location and found the decapitated body of 37-year-old Aasiya Hassan. They charged her 44-year old husband with second degree murder.
 
Authorities say the woman had recently filed for divorce from her husband. Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III told The Buffalo News that "Obviously, this is the worse form of domestic violence possible."
 
Brigitte Gabriel, founder and president of ACT! for America and author of They Must Be Stopped: Why We Must Defeat Radical Islam and How We Can Do It, says this incident is more than just domestic violence.
 
"He killed her according to the Islamic way," she notes. "And this is the guy who was being touted as the moderate Muslim. He is the president and founder of Bridges TV, where he was trying to create bridges between the Muslim world and the Western world, trying to show the Western world what Islam is truly about, to go against the stereotype what Muslims are all about."
 
And Gabriel says Hassan was honored by the Council on American Islamic Relations, or CAIR. "CAIR gave him an award. And we know that CAIR -- just like many other Islamic organizations -- is nothing more than a front for the Muslim Brotherhood operating in the United States," she contends. "We know that CAIR is for sure a front for Hamas, and so anybody who has ever been associated with CAIR is somebody we have to look at and scrutinize."
 
She is also surprised that authorities have only charged Hassan with second degree murder.

One evangelical pastor is describing Attorney General Eric Holder's speech to Justice Department employees marking Black History Month "arrogant and unnecessarily incendiary."

The nation's first black attorney general caused a stir Wednesday when he suggested that America is still having a difficult time dealing with the issue of race. "Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial we have always been and we, I believe continue to be, in too many ways essentially a nation of cowards," Holder said.
 
Holder argued that on weekends, many Americans are still segregated inside what he called "race-protected cocoons." Bishop Harry Jackson, Jr., a Maryland pastor and chairman of the High Impact Leadership Coalition, disagrees with Holder and says it was "horrible" for the attorney general to read those comments as a prepared speech.
 
"He intended to give us a signal, however, that he was going to overcome cowardice as he administrates and adjudicates the law of the land. And he began to list, somewhere toward the end, that blacks had opened the door for women's rights, for other groups," he notes. "And I can't help but think that he is going to try to prosecute affirmative action cases and even cases that deal with gay rights and issues such as hate rimes in the days ahead."
 
Jackson says Holder missed an opportunity to be gracious and to celebrate the historic nature of his appointment and President Obama's election.

VATICAN CITY - Pope Benedict XVI on Wednesday told U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, a Catholic who supports abortion rights, that Catholic politicians have a duty to protect life "at all stages of its development," the Vatican said.

Pelosi is the first top Democrat to meet with Benedict since the election of Barack Obama, who won a majority of the Catholic vote despite differences with the Vatican on abortion.

The Vatican released remarks by the pope to Pelosi, saying Benedict spoke of the church's teaching "on the dignity of human life from conception to natural death." That is an expression often used by the pope when expressing opposition to abortion.

Benedict said all Catholics - especially legislators, jurists and political leaders - should work to create "a just system of laws capable of protecting human life at all stages of its development."

Pelosi could not immediately be reached after the 15-minute meeting, which was closed to reporters and photographers. The two met in a small room of a Vatican auditorium after the pope's weekly public audience.

A number of the bishops in the United States have questioned Pelosi's stance on abortion, particularly her theological defense of her support for abortion rights.

Benedict has cautiously welcomed the new Democratic administration, although several American cardinals have sharply criticized its support of abortion rights in a break from former President George W. Bush.

Pelosi had meetings with Italian leaders the past few days, including Premier Silvio Berlusconi.

The managing editor of Budget & Tax News says no money for education should have been included in the recently signed economic "stimulus" bill.

In a recent press conference, Education Secretary Arne Duncan warned that if the economic stimulus bill did not pass, up to 600,000 education workers could lose their jobs as states face enormous budget shortfalls. But Steve Stanek of The Heartland Institute argues that the bill should not have included the allotted $87 billion for education.
 
Stanek argues that the stimulus basically amounts to a payoff for teachers and teachers unions who supported Obama.
 
"The teachers unions are extremely powerful at the local and state levels -- and certainly at the federal level," Stanek acknowledges. "You can look at the money that [the Democratic Party] receives from the teachers unions and it's enormous! And they are not fans of meaningful reform in education."
 
According to an Associated Press report, $39 billion is going towards K-12 and higher education, $8 billion is to be used in upgrading existing schools, $4 billion will be used for Head Start and Early Head Start programs, and $25 billion will be used to bolster No Child Left Behind. Stanek has little positive to say about George W. Bush's signature education program.
 
"I did not like No Child Left Behind. I think it's a huge intrusion of the federal government into what ought to be local and state issues," he shares. "It's a way for the federal government to simply grab more power, and I think another $25 billion is just $25 billion more power the federal government is going to have over public school education."
 
Stanek contends that lawmakers in Washington, DC, used the economic downturn as an excuse to throw more money at education. He notes that in the last decade the U.S. has only seen a nine-percent increase in student enrollment, but a 22-percent increase in the number of teachers and administrators in K-12 education.
